Which version of the story do ya want? I'll try it this way...
Feral Drollery, the deranged brainchild of Gog, is the musical equivalent of a freakish mutation of some genetic experiment gone hideously awry; a testament to the often hidden potential of Portland's "weirdo" culture for which it has been notorious since the early 2000's. FD's sound is vaguely akin to a combination of The Residents, Les Claypool, Ministry, Zappa, Mr. Bungle. Gog's huge hair fans the flames of tempestuous bass licks, amid synthy, experimental electronic beats, and grunty, baritone vocals. All this, while showcasing an assortment of homemade instruments, props, and occasionally "food".
It started back in the day at the bachelor pad apartment. Gog was busy with his first garage band, Taper, and wanted desperately to autonomously branch out with his own creations. With a scarcity of income, (and a belly full of biscuits & gravy) early recording experiments consisted of cassette decks with built-in microphones, banging on coffee cans, toy keyboards, found objects, cheap effects, and possibly some of the worst lyrics ever written.
From there, over the years, the gear, musicianship, living quarters, (and, yes, at least to some degree, the lyrics) evolved. FD has released several singles, an EP, and a handfull of full-length albums. As of now, anticipating the forthcoming next album, “Mortimer”. October of 2003 saw FD's debut performance, with a steady stream of Spanish Coffee-fueled shows around the Portland area ever since.
Gog just wants to play! He ardently desires to share his awkward brand of fun with YOU. Cheers!
